One of the oldest folk ‘memory’ painters, Birnbaum depicted romanticized scenes that merged his Eastern European past with his life in Brooklyn. naïve and colorful, the paintings display a joyful optimism. Birnbaum’s works have been exhibited at The Museum of American Folk Art, The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Lehman Loeb Art Center.
