Institutionalized for many years, Arning began making drawings in 1964, and worked for nine years producing about 2500 works. His art, copied from magazine ads, displays a unique sense of composition and pattern, geometric shapes, bold color and spare, flat designs.
Arning’s work can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Museum of American Folk Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum.
